Why is pool water different from fresh water?
Pool water contains treatment chemicals and dissolved material. When the water moves or evaporates, residue can remain around the grille or other openings. A sound tool addresses movement, not contamination.
Submersion also exposes more of the phone than a brief splash. Even if the speaker is the first obvious symptom, do not assume it is the only affected area.
What should you do immediately?
Disconnect cables, remove the case and wipe the exterior with a soft, lint-free cloth. Keep the connector facing down and move the phone to a dry area with airflow. Do not charge while it is wet.
Apple’s wet-iPhone guidance says that supported iPhones exposed to a liquid other than water can have the affected exterior area rinsed with tap water and then wiped. Follow the current instructions for your exact device rather than improvising with cleaners.
When can you use Water Eject?
If the phone functions normally and the remaining issue is a muffled speaker or receiver, identify the affected output and point it downward. Run one controlled sequence at a strong but comfortable volume.
Wipe away droplets and return the phone to airflow. Do not keep repeating the sequence because it briefly changes the sound. Chlorine residue is not removed by more diaphragm movement.
What if the sound improves and returns?
Temporary improvement can mean a droplet moved while moisture or residue remains. Compare the same audio after a longer drying interval. Note whether the symptom is confined to one output and whether it is steadily improving.
Repeated recurrence, especially after swimming, should lower the threshold for service advice. It may reflect contamination or a problem that a sound test cannot diagnose.
What should you avoid?
Avoid heat, compressed air, rice and objects in the connector or grille. Do not add alcohol, soap or other cleaning liquid to the speaker. Do not charge the phone to “see if it is fine.”
If a liquid-detection alert appears, follow Apple’s connector drying guidance. A speaker tone does not clear the port.
When is service the better next step?
Seek evaluation for persistent severe muffling or crackling, no sound, charging failure, repeated liquid alerts, heat, shutdowns, display changes or camera fogging. Record the pool exposure and any temporary improvements.
