Stop the unexpected output

Pause Water Eject as soon as the tone comes from AirPods, headphones, a car, television or Bluetooth speaker. Remove worn headphones before changing routes. Lower the volume to a comfortable test level so an automatic reconnection does not produce another surprise.

The failed route does not indicate that the water-eject sound itself is broken. It indicates that iOS delivered it to a different audio device.

Disconnect the Bluetooth destination
