Disconnect cables immediately
Remove the charger and any wired accessory. Charging with a wet connector can corrode the pins and cause permanent damage. Do not reconnect repeatedly to see whether the warning disappears.
Remove the case and wipe the exterior with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Dry the connector correctly
Hold the iPhone with the connector facing down and tap it gently against your hand to remove excess liquid. Leave it in a dry area with airflow. Cool fan airflow toward the connector may help.
Do not use heat, compressed air, swabs, tissue or rice. These methods can damage the port or introduce particles.
Follow the general charging interval
Apple’s water-resistance guidance advises allowing at least five hours before wired charging or connecting an accessory after liquid exposure.
This is a minimum, not proof of dryness. Exposure depth, connector condition and airflow vary.
Respond to a liquid-detection alert
Apple advises waiting at least 30 minutes before trying again. If the alert returns, liquid remains in the connector or under cable pins. Continue airflow and recheck during a period that may extend to 24 hours.
If one particular cable repeatedly triggers the alert after the phone is dry, the accessory may be damaged.
Understand emergency override
Emergency override bypasses the charging block; it does not dry the port. Using it while wet can damage the connector. Choose it only when charging is genuinely urgent and the risk is understood.
Do not use override as a diagnostic test.
Separate speaker and connector recovery
A water-eject sound can improve a muffled speaker while the connector remains wet. Conversely, the speaker can be normal while the port shows an alert.
Treat each opening independently. Water Eject cannot make a charging decision, and a clearer speaker is not permission to reconnect a cable.
Before reconnecting a cable
Inspect the cable end as well as the iPhone connector in bright light. Both should be visibly dry and free of residue. Reconnect only after the applicable waiting period and without a liquid warning. If the alert returns, disconnect again instead of testing repeatedly. Use a different known-dry cable only to rule out moisture or damage in the accessory—not to bypass an iPhone warning. A recurring alert after a full day, discolored contacts, an unusual smell or unreliable charging deserves professional inspection.
