What makes a sound sequence controlled?

A controlled sequence has a defined duration, predictable frequency range, known output and clear stopping point. The phone is positioned so displaced water can leave, and the user compares the result instead of chasing maximum loudness.

This structure is safer and more informative than looping an arbitrary test tone for an unknown period.

How loud should it be?

Use enough volume to create clear speaker movement without harsh distortion. Start below maximum and raise it gradually. The useful signal is clean, strong output—not the loudest setting.

Water can already make the speaker sound rough. If increasing volume turns mild muffling into scraping, rattling or severe crackle, lower it or stop.

Why do frequency and output matter?

Very low tones may reproduce weakly or distort on a small speaker. The top receiver and bottom loudspeaker also have different responses. Sending the right sequence to the wrong output is ineffective and encourages unnecessary volume increases.

Select the wet speaker explicitly. Do not assume a media sound reaches the earpiece used for calls.

How long should playback last?

Use one complete sequence, usually measured in seconds or about a minute, then stop. Wipe away droplets and allow airflow. A second run is reasonable only when the first clearly helped.

Continuous playback cannot dry internal components and may distract from charging safety or broader symptoms.

Which sounds mean stop?

Stop for harsh mechanical scraping, a sudden loss of output, worsening crackle, vibration without audible sound or distortion that remains severe at moderate volume. Also stop when the phone becomes unusually warm or unstable.

These signs do not prove permanent damage, but they make another loud test the wrong next action.

What is the product limit?

Water Eject can drive a functioning speaker or receiver. It cannot inspect a diaphragm, measure sound pressure at the component, detect corrosion or repair a fault. Follow Apple’s speaker troubleshooting when no sound or distortion persists.

Make the first run a safety check

Start below maximum volume with the correct built-in output selected and no headphones connected. Listen for a normal tone plus wet sputtering, not scraping, buzzing or a mechanical rattle. Stop immediately if the phone becomes hot, audio cuts out or the distortion grows worse. After the sequence, use ordinary speech audio at moderate volume to judge the result. A controlled run is useful only when it produces evidence; continuous playback, repeated maximum-volume cycles and attempts to force a silent speaker are outside that safe use case.

Should I use full volume?+
