Confirm that audio is not playing elsewhere
Open Control Center, inspect the playback destination and disconnect Bluetooth, AirPlay and wired accessories. Raise media volume to a moderate level and try a familiar spoken clip. Also check Silent mode and Focus where relevant to the sound being tested.
An apparently silent speaker is often an output-routing problem. Fixing the route immediately restores sound and means no water-eject sequence is needed.
Test the two built-in paths separately
Use media or speakerphone to test the bottom loudspeaker. Make a brief call at your ear to test the top receiver. Note whether one output works, both are silent or one produces faint distortion.
Do not assume that a music test covers the receiver. The outputs can fail or remain wet independently, and the correct next step depends on which physical opening is affected.
Continue the wet-device response
Disconnect cables, remove the case, wipe the exterior and leave the phone in a dry location with airflow. Orient the affected opening and connector downward. Avoid rice, heat, compressed air and anything inserted into the grille or port.
Follow Apple’s wet-iPhone guidance for charging intervals and broader device handling. A silent speaker does not justify reconnecting a wet cable for testing.
Do not force a silent output with tones
Water ejection depends on a moving speaker diaphragm producing acoustic pressure. If the target makes no sound, looping tones or increasing to maximum volume cannot perform that function. Stop and preserve the evidence that the output is silent.
If faint sound is present but badly muffled, one controlled sequence may be reasonable. Stop immediately for harsh mechanical noise or worsening behavior.
Inspect the dry opening and settings
Once the phone is dry, remove anything covering the opening and inspect it in bright light. Apple’s speaker troubleshooting recommends checking for blockage and permits a small, clean, dry, soft-bristled brush for a dirty opening.
Do not scrape mesh or push material inward. Recheck the route and the same reference clip after any safe surface cleaning.
Escalate persistent silence
Seek service when the intended output remains silent after drying, routing and blockage checks. Escalate sooner if both outputs fail or the phone develops heat, charging trouble, repeated liquid alerts, shutdowns, display changes or camera fogging.
Tell the technician which output failed and what liquid exposure occurred. “No sound” plus those specifics is more actionable than repeated attempts to make an eject tone play.
Questions about an iPhone speaker with no sound after water
Can water alone make a speaker completely silent?+
Heavy moisture may severely attenuate sound, but routing, settings, blockage and component failure must also be checked.
Should I run the tone at maximum volume?+
No. If the target produces no sound, maximum-volume repetition provides no useful water-ejection mechanism and can obscure diagnosis.
How do I test the other iPhone speaker?+
Use media or speakerphone for the bottom path and a call at your ear for the top receiver, with Bluetooth disconnected.
When is silence a service issue?+
Seek service when the correct route remains silent after drying and basic checks, especially with charging, heat, display or stability symptoms.
